Last week I sat on the lap of luxury.
Okay, may be not your typical luxury. Because my luxury is presented in words.
Poetry, books, words and more words. Poetry night, Gaborone International Music and Culture Week, at Botswana Craft; that’s the lap I sat on!It was wow and wow; TJ Dema just did it for me.
Poetry reminds me of Christmas fireworks breaking through the dark nights inciting explosive excitement in the human hearts. That mood where one feels like a child.
It adds color to life. I think poetry is a beautiful way to start spring.
That night reminded of the poems my niece dedicated to me at the beginning of my blogging journey. She wrote a couple of poems but the one entitled “Fly” resonated with me. I thought to share it with you because I believe all of us are called to fly to greater heights.
FLY
Crouched down on life’s nest I heard the wind’s gentle whisper calling out to me
Tugging under my feathers and thrusting them up
The whisper became a loud implacable voice
I knew it was time; time to take the jump
Time to soar on the vast sunlit skies my eyes could only see a fraction of
Time began to resemble a ticking bomb
I had to go to the place beyond the orange and pink hues of the horizon
Holding onto the hope of a future fighting the thought that it could be just a mirage
I took the leap and began to flap my wings and fly
Resisting the fear emanating from every pore of my being
And the deep intimidating voice of thunder
Resisting the prickly claws of uncertainty that pierced my heart,
I looked caution in the eye and kissed her goodbye
I was on my way chasing my dreams inscribed on the stars
The dreams only I could reach.
By Lewa Letsogile
This poem captured the essence of what I felt at the beginning of my blogging journey.
When the road ahead is bigger than ourselves we grapple with fear as I did. I didn’t know whether I would have readers like yourself supporting me but I wanted to chase my dream anyway and believe that God will guide me every step of the way.
You probably feel the fear too, smell it and it may seem tangible.
You are probably fighting uncertainty but who said the path to your dreams should only be followed if it is certain.
Your dreams inscribed on the stars are reachable and they will call you so strong until you respond to the calling. You are called to fly. What is holding you back?
