In my last post I wrote about what giving of yourself looks like today I want to share with you 6 things to do if you want to give of yourself.
1.Ask yourself this question, what would become of the world if I don’t give of myself?
I like the words of Mother Theresa who said “When a poor person dies of hunger, it has not happened because God did not take care of him or her. It has happened because neither you nor I wanted to give that person what he or she needed.”
This was a question Mother Theresa asked herself “what would become of the poor if I don’t give of myself?”
Ask yourself, “What would become of this world if you do not give of your talents, your skills and gifts to the world?”
2.Embrace the truth that the world needs you.
The world needs your passion. The world needs who you are, the world needs what you know, your wins and failures; all these can make a difference in somebody’s life.
3.Start even if the conditions are not favorable.
Do not wait for favorable conditions.
We often have an armory of reasons why we cant give of ourselves to the world;
“I do not have enough”
“I have my own needs”
“I don’t have time”
“I will start next year”.
Here is the thing the ones who made a difference in this world didn’t always have the most favorable conditions but they started anyway.
4. Pick yourself
Do not wait to be called.
Do not wait until someone singles you out, jump into the bandwagon of the doers and give a little bit of yourself to the world.
We cannot afford to wait until someone says you are good enough, until someone says get into the game.
Just pick yourself even if systems have given you the boot.
I talk here about successful people who were told they wont make it into fields of their aspirations but they decided to pick themselves when no one wanted to pick them and that changed everything.
5. Refuse to give in when it is tough
It will get tough.
People who give of themselves keep going and understand that what they do now will survive beyond the years of their lives and go beyond places within their reach.
They thrive in knowing that sometimes the smallest giving can have the biggest impacts in someone’s life.
6. Remind yourself how it felt to be without
Sometimes remembering how it felt like to be without can motivate you to reach someone who is at the same place you used to be.
I wrote here about Bobo and Martin former drug addicts who are reaching out young people in the same path they traveled, they know what it feels like to be without freedom and live under the bondage of drugs. That is enough motivation for them to give of themselves.
